I’m Julia Weeks, the creator of Prepare to Tack, and I’m going to share with you a little bit about myself and how I came up with the idea of this site.
In 2014, I realized that something was missing in my career. While I had achieved much success in my Recruiting career over the years, I just wasn’t satisfied or happy with life. Understanding that I needed to make some changes, I threw caution to the wind, resigned from my 50+ hour a week job, sold my house, car, and most of my worldly possessions in order to chase a sailing adventure in the Mediterranean.
Sailing to countries I had never been to before, living with the locals and getting to know different cultures, experiencing the freedom of fewer possessions and the ability to freelance from anywhere in the world were all things that I had been looking for.
With all of these amazing experiences, my new lifestyle seemed perfect, with only one thing missing…
Freelance recruiting, writing, and editing along the way didn’t bring in the nice salary I was used to in the past, but with minimal possessions I no longer needed a large salary. While my freelance earnings and savings were enough to promote my nomadic lifestyle, I found that the work lacked professional purpose and passion.
After a lot of self contemplation and discovery, I knew that I wanted to do something professionally which not only allowed me to continue my sailing travels, but which also contributed towards helping others in some way. Taking steps towards identifying my greatest areas of expertise as well as a profession that would be rewarding, I created Prepare to Tack as a way of helping others who are searching for more in their professional life—just as I had.
Prepare to Tack is about taking action to make a change in your professional career, just as preparing to tack on a sailboat is about taking action to make a change in your boat’s course.
I understand that having a satisfying and rewarding career is important, regardless of your situation or place in life. My passion for helping others, along with my ability to maintain an open mind, and my expertise in the recruiting field are all instrumental in my approach to Career Coaching.
Whether you are interested in finding your career path or simply changing your career all together, I will be with you every step of the way through tips in my blog posts and one-on-one coaching sessions.
My philosophy in Career Coaching is that it’s never too late to create the career of your dreams.
